Cybersecurity and Compliance – KCSiE

KCSiE Requires Effective Filtering and Monitoring

Core to the Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSiE) statutory guidance is the requirement for schools to limit children’s exposure to risks from the school’s IT systems. Blocking harmful or illegal content and creating user policies that address bring-your-own-device (BYOD) terms of use are key to KCSiE compliance.

SafeGuarding Monitoring Feature

Using data from the Internet Watch Foundation and other sources, WatchGuard Cloud SafeGuarding monitors searches for terminology associated with child exploitation and can immediately send an intervention message containing the IP address, username, timestamp, and search term to a set of email addresses specified by the administrator.

The Search Engine report allows administrators to actively monitor user-submitted keywords and phrases to Bing and Google through a WatchGuard Firebox. The report identifies the date, time, username, originating host, search engine, and keywords that were submitted to the respective search engine.

WebBlocker with URL Filtering

A WebBlocker blocks web-based malware, helps ensure secure remote connectivity, and provides tight control over web surfing – even on HTTPS, the notorious backdoor students use to beat conventional web filters. It’s also a key solution used to meet Wi-Fi standards.

Total Security Suite

To comply with KCSiE, schools must apply filtering at the network level. Relying on software or a user device is not enough. WatchGuard’s Total Security Suite has an arsenal of scanning engines that provide enhanced network visibility, endpoint protection, DNS filtering, and the ability to act against threats right from WatchGuard Cloud.

Secure Wi-Fi

Wireless security is critical to providing a safe, protected environment in the education industry. WatchGuard’s patented approach to secure Wi-Fi protects children by ensuring that they connect with legitimate school-managed access points and not those masquerading as the school’s access points to steal information or install malware on the network.

WatchGuard is proud to be a member of the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), a not-for-profit organization that searches for, stops, removes, and prevents child sexual abuse imagery online. Along with successfully assessing and removing harmful content off the Internet, the IWF advocates to add child protection elements to any new legislation that involves the Internet.
