UK Regulation: Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSiE)

UK Gets High Marks for Making School Internet Access Safer

With the KCSiE updates published in September, 2016, the UK takes a ground-breaking position by offering guidance on the legal safeguards required of childcare and school personnel when children under the age of 18 are in their care. It addresses the safeguards needed to protect children from maltreatment, prevent impairment of children’s health or development, as well as ensure that children can access the Internet free of inappropriate content and risk of exposure.

Core to KCSiE is the requirement for schools to do all they reasonably can to limit a child’s exposure to risks from the school’s IT system. As part of this process, they need to ensure that they have appropriate filters and monitoring systems in place. WatchGuard has the enterprise-grade security needed to offer a safe surfing experience that can be deployed within a tight budget.

Internet Watch Foundation

WatchGuard is proud to be a member of the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), a not-for-profit organization that is supported by the European Commission. The IWF works internationally to make the Internet a safer place. It helps victims of child sexual abuse worldwide by identifying and removing online images and videos of their abuse. It searches for child sexual abuse images and videos, and offers a place for the public to report them anonymously. It then works hard to have them removed – usually in less than 2 hours.
