Sophisticated Attacks No Longer Require Sophisticated Attackers

The greatest impact of AI may not be making the most advanced attackers slightly better.

It may be making a much larger number of attackers significantly more capable.

That shift changes the economics of cybersecurity.

More actors can access advanced capabilities, more operations can become customized, and more campaigns can adapt based on results.

AI does not eliminate the value of attacker expertise.

But it changes how much expertise is required to create impact.

What This Means for Security Teams

Security teams cannot view this shift only as an increase in attack volume.

The challenge is that advanced behaviors are becoming easier to reproduce.

As the gap between basic and sophisticated operations becomes smaller, defenders need to focus less on assumptions about who is behind an attack and more on understanding how the attack behaves.

The future of cybersecurity requires the ability to connect signals, understand context, and identify coordinated activity before attackers achieve their objectives.

The Next Evolution of Cyber Defense

The rise of AI-assisted attacks does not mean replacing security professionals with AI.

It means helping security teams operate at a different level.

Human expertise remains essential, but AI can help increase operational capacity by reducing manual effort, accelerating investigations, and connecting information across complex environments.

As attackers gain access to greater capabilities, defenders need to increase their own ability to understand and respond.

The future will not be defined simply by who uses AI.

It will be defined by who builds the better operating model.
