Reset an Access Point to Factory-Default Settings

Applies To: WatchGuard Cloud-managed Access Points (AP130, AP230W, AP330, AP332CR, AP430CR, AP432)

There are two ways you can reset an access point to factory-default settings:

After the access point is reset to factory-default settings, it will receive its configuration the next time it connects to WatchGuard Cloud.

The AP332CR access point does not have a physical reset button, and must be reset from the CLI. The AP430CR access point LAN 2 port and physical reset button within the port are discontinued in hardware revision M and higher. You can reset the access point from the command line interface (CLI).

Reset an Access Point with the Reset Button

Before you begin, make sure the access point is successfully booted with no solid orange or red LEDs. If the device is not successfully booted, this procedure will only reboot the access point.

You can reset an access point to factory-default settings with the reset button on the device. For information about the location of the reset button, go to the Hardware Guide for your access point.

To reset an access point with the reset button:

Reset an Access Point from the Command Line Interface (CLI)

You can also reset the access point to factory-default settings from the access point CLI. For more information, go to Access Point Command Line Interface.

  1. Open your terminal application.
  2. Verify that your connection type is set to SSH and the parameters are set to:
  3. Host name — The IP address of the access point. You can find the IP address for the access point on the Device Summary page in WatchGuard Cloud.
  4. Port — 22
  5. Start the connection.

The connection window shows a welcome message and the access point login prompt.
  6. At the login prompt, type the user name admin. Press Enter.
  7. At the password prompt, type the password you set for the device in WatchGuard Cloud. Press Enter.

If you have not yet added the access point to WatchGuard Cloud and set a device password, the default password for the CLI is watchguard.
  8. At the command line interface prompt, type: mgmt backup revertfac

Caution: This command will immediately revert the access point to factory-default settings with no additional confirmation.
