Access Point Performance Issues Report

Applies To: WatchGuard Cloud-managed Access Points (AP130, AP230W, AP330, AP332CR, AP430CR, AP432)

The Performance Issues report provides detailed information about clients impacted by poor Wi-Fi performance such as a low RSSI (signal strength) or low data rate.

  • Low RSSI — An RSSI less than -75 dBm is considered a low signal strength for a client. The closer the value is to 0 dBm, the stronger the signal. For example, -60 dBm is a better signal strength than -75 dBm.
  • Low Data Rate — A data rate of less than 25 Mbps is considered a low data rate for a client.

You can select individual clients to view detailed performance issue data for the client's connections to your access points. This enables you to more easily identify specific clients that require action to improve their connection to your access points.

To view the Performance Issues report in WatchGuard Cloud:

  1. Select Monitor > Devices.
  2. Select a cloud-managed access point or a folder that contains your access points.
  3. From the Devices menu, select Access Points > Performance Issues.
    The Performance Issues report opens.

For information on how to schedule a report, go to Schedule Access Point Reports.

The access point sends report data to WatchGuard Cloud every 5 minutes. Set a longer report time range for a more accurate data representation of performance issues over time.

Performance Issues Report

The Performance Issues report includes a chart of wireless client activity that shows the number of clients that were impacted by low RSSI or low data rate over the specified time period.

  • In the Search text box, type a query to search the Client, SSID, and MAC address columns in the list of clients with performance issues.
  • Click to download a CSV file of the list of clients with performance issues.

The table includes this data:

  • Client — The host name of the wireless client. If the client name cannot be determined, the MAC address of the client is shown. Click a client name to view the client details page that shows detailed performance issue data for the client connection to an access point. For more information, go to Client Performance Issues Details.
  • Low RSSI % — The percentage of time of the client’s connections when the client was impacted by low RSSI.
  • Low Data Rate % — The percentage of time of the client’s connections when the client was impacted by a low data rate.
  • SSID — The SSID that the wireless client connected to.
  • Security — The security protocol of the SSID that the wireless client connected to.
  • MAC Address — The MAC address of the wireless client.
  • Total Time Connected — The amount of time a wireless client was connected to an SSID. This includes the total time of all connections by the client in the selected time period.

Client Performance Issues Details

When you select a specific client name from the Performance Issues client list table, you can view the performance details for the client's connections to access points on the Performance tab.

For more information about the information in the Overview tab, go to View Wireless Client Details.

The chart shows the time periods when the client was impacted by low RSSI or low data rate.

You can hover over specific areas of the chart to view details of the RSSI and data rate performance over time. The green dots indicate the start and end of the client's connection to the access point.

  • Click to select the report date range.
  • Click to download a PDF version of the report.

  • Total Time Connected — The amount of time a wireless client was connected to the access point.
  • Low RSSI % — The percentage of time when the client was impacted by low RSSI while connected to the access point.
  • Low Data Rate % — The percentage of time when the client was impacted by a low data rate while connected to the access point.
  • Average RSSI — The average RSSI of the client's connection to the access point.
  • Average Data Rate — The average data rate of the client's connection to the access point.
