About Static Routes and Dynamic Routing
Applies To: Cloud-managed Fireboxes
This document applies to Fireboxes you manage in WatchGuard Cloud. For information that applies to Fireboxes managed in Fireware Web UI or WatchGuard System Manager, go to:
A cloud-managed Firebox automatically updates its routing table when you change network interface settings, when a physical network connection fails, or when you restart the Firebox. To update the routing table at other times, you can add a static route or use dynamic routing.
Static Routing
Routing table is set and does not change. Static routes can improve performance, but if there is a change in the network structure or if a connection fails, network traffic cannot get to its destination. For more information, go to Configure Firebox Routes.
Dynamic Routing
Routing table automatically updates as the configuration of a network changes. Dynamic routing ensures that your network traffic can reach its destination, but it can be more difficult to set up. For more information, go to About Dynamic Routing and Protocols for Cloud-Managed Fireboxes.
On the Device Configuration page for a cloud-managed Firebox, the Networking section shows a summary of network settings. To view and configure settings for a static route or dynamic routing, click the Routes widget.
