New Features

WatchGuard Agent Support for the AuthPoint Logon App

You can now use the WatchGuard Agent to deploy and manage the AuthPoint Logon app on Windows and Mac computers. This makes the Logon app easier to deploy, and it enables the Logon app to automatically download and install updates (previously, updated versions of the Logon app had to be installed manually).

New Features

AuthPoint Mobile App for Android and iOS v3.0

A new version of the AuthPoint mobile app is now available for Android and iOS. The new mobile apps have an updated UI and a new feature that enables you to search your tokens. This version also includes minor bug fixes and enhancements.

WatchGuard will roll out the updated mobile apps over the next week, with the rollout complete by 7 April 2026.

AuthPoint as an External MFA Provider for Entra

AuthPoint now supports Microsoft 365 with Entra ID users. This is part of the Microsoft external MFA feature (previously called Microsoft External Authentication Methods). With this feature, you can use AuthPoint multi-factor authentication for Microsoft 365 with user accounts that exist only in Entra ID (accounts that are not synced with a local Active Directory server). Previously, AuthPoint could not support this use case. [INIT-1070]

AuthPoint Mobile App for Android and iOS v3.0 (beta)

A new version of the AuthPoint mobile app is now available to beta test for Android and iOS. The new mobile apps have an updated UI and a new feature that enables you to search your tokens. • When you use Microsoft Edge, the AuthPoint UI now correctly shows all of the options in the three dot menu on the Users page. This resolves an issue that caused part of the menu to be cut off because it extended beyond the edge of the page. [AAAS-29285]

OIDC Resource for Authentication in AuthPoint

AuthPoint now offers a new OIDC resource type. With the OIDC resource, you can configure MFA for applications and services with the OpenID Connect protocol. This protocol is built on OAuth 2.0 and uses JSON Web Tokens for identity information. [AAAS-20355]

AuthPoint Support for Passkey Authentication

AuthPoint now supports passkey authentication. With this beta feature, AuthPoint users can authenticate to FireCloud, Entra ID, and OIDC resources with a passkey instead of a password and MFA. [INIT-782]

  • Forgot Token mode now works correctly when you log in from a network location that belongs to the same zero trust policy as the Logon app. [AAAS-27949]
  • You can now successfully RDP and authenticate to a Windows Server with a host name that resolves to IPv6 or direct IPv6 IP address. [AAAS-23753]
  • Resolved an issue that sometimes caused an authentication error when you used RDP to connect to a computer with the Logon app installed and your policy included multiple zero trust conditions. [AAAS-28401]
  • Resolved an issue that caused the Mobile VPN with IPsec pre-login option to not work or display correctly when the Logon app v4.0 was installed. [AAAS-28300, AAAS-28468]
  • Resolved an issue that caused the Logon app authentication time to sometimes exceed the Windows timeout. When this happened, the computer would lock or go to sleep before the authentication could complete. [AAAS-26213]
  • Resolved an issue that caused the Logon app to start more slowly when they computer is connected to a slow network. [AAAS-28763]
  • Resolved an issue that enabled users to log in with MFA after the license had expired when the computer was offline. In this scenario, users now get a message that the license has expired and can log in to the computer without MFA. [AAAS-27130]
  • Improved the experience when the first logon to a computer with the Logon app is done when connected to a captive portal or a Wi-Fi network with restricted Internet access. The Logon app now shows an error that indicates the first authentication requires Internet access. [AAAS-27585]
  • The Logon app now correctly recognizes input from the Enter key on a number pad. [AAAS-26152]
  • The Logon app now shows a localized UI in French when the language configured on the computer uses a French language code other than FR-FR, such as FR-CA (French-Canada). [AAAS-28055]

Entra ID Authentication Domains for Directories and Domain Services

You can now add Microsoft Entra ID authentication domains to Directories and Domain Services in WatchGuard Cloud. Products in WatchGuard Cloud, such as AuthPoint, can use the Entra ID users and groups that you sync to this authentication domain. This enables you to add Entra ID users and groups in one place and then use them with multiple products.

As part of the process to centralize users and groups in Directories and Domain Services, all existing AuthPoint Entra ID external identity configurations will be migrated to Directories and Domain Services in WatchGuard Cloud. You can initiate this migration any time.

OIDC Resource for Authentication in AuthPoint (Beta)

AuthPoint now supports the OIDC resource to configure multi-factor authentication for an application or service. OIDC resources connect AuthPoint with an application using the OpenID Connect protocol. This protocol is built on OAuth 2.0 and uses JSON Web Tokens for identity information.

Zero Trust Platform Policies

WatchGuard Cloud is centralizing policy management with a new feature called Zero Trust. You now configure policies and conditions (previously called policy objects in AuthPoint) for products such as AuthPoint with Zero Trust in WatchGuard Cloud. This way you can add policies in one place that can be used across multiple products and services. This will make it faster and easier to add and manage your policies across multiple products. To learn more about Zero Trust, go to About Zero Trust in WatchGuard Cloud.

As part of the process to centralize policy management, all existing AuthPoint policies and policy objects will migrate automatically to Zero Trust in WatchGuard Cloud. [AAAS-21949, AAAS-22976, AAAS-23216]

Custom Application Portal Links

You can now add custom URLs to the AuthPoint application portal to share a direct link to a specific website with specific user groups. You might do this for websites or applications that do not support SAML or that are not managed by your company. To learn more about custom application portal links, go to Add Custom Links to the AuthPoint Application Portal.

This was previously a Total Identity Security feature called Corporate Credentials, and is now available for all AuthPoint accounts. [AAAS-27127]

The AuthPoint Logon app v4.0 (agent for Windows) is now publicly available. The updated agent for Windows has an improved look and feel that aligns with the UI of the agent for macOS. Password Requirements for WatchGuard Cloud Directory Users

You can now specify password requirements for WatchGuard Cloud Directory users. This includes both MFA and non-MFA user accounts. For example, you can increase the minimum required password length, or specify character requirements for passwords. [AAAS-23511]

• You can no longer start a new AuthPoint Total Identity Security trial license on an account.   • The AuthPoint Gateway now supports the Message-Authenticator attribute in requests and responses. This attribute protects from exploits such as Blast-RADIUS (CVE-2024-3596). To require the Message-Authenticator attribute with a Firebox, the Firebox must run Fireware v12.11.1 or higher. [AAAS-23583, AAAS-24541]
  • You can now successfully install the AuthPoint Gateway on endpoints that have WatchGuard EPDR installed. [AAAS-24891]

You can now view and manage AuthPoint incidents in ThreatSync. AuthPoint sends incident data to ThreatSync in the form of Credential Access events. These Credential Access incidents are available:

• Authentication denied by AuthPoint policy
• Token blocked by too many failed authentications
• User disabled push notifications

The AuthPoint agent for macOS v2.0 is now publicly available. The new agent for macOS has been redesigned with a new, improved look and feel. You can also use fingerprint authentication for privilege elevation operations. Combined with AuthPoint MFA, this makes the login process for protected machines easier and more secure.

AuthPoint Password Manager

AuthPoint operators can now delete and reprovision the password vault for Total Identity Security user accounts. You might do this if the user forgot their vault password and does not have their recovery key, or if the user no longer uses the AuthPoint password manager and they want to make sure their personal information is safe. Both options are available from the Users page in the AuthPoint management UI.

WatchGuard Cloud Directory

WatchGuard Cloud is centralizing user and group management in Directories and Domain Services (previously called Authentication Domains). As part of this change, you can now add WatchGuard Cloud-hosted users and groups to a new authentication domain called the WatchGuard Cloud Directory. Products in WatchGuard Cloud, such as AuthPoint, can use the users and groups that you add to the WatchGuard Cloud Directory.

When you add the WatchGuard Cloud Directory, your existing local AuthPoint users and groups automatically migrate to Directories and Domain Services in WatchGuard Cloud. This does not impact your AuthPoint configuration. You still view and manage the users and groups in AuthPoint.

We also added a new type of AuthPoint user account: non-MFA users. Non-MFA users are users that only authenticate with a password, such as a service account user. Non-MFA users do not consume an AuthPoint user license and cannot authenticate to resources that require MFA. They can only authenticate to protected resources if the non-MFA user account has a password only authentication policy for that resource. When you add new users to the WatchGuard Cloud Directory, you select whether to add non-MFA users or MFA users.

AuthPoint Token Activation Email for New Users

When you add or sync a user account, you can now choose whether to have AuthPoint create a mobile token for the new user account and send an email to the user to activate their mobile token. AuthPoint does this by default. This gives you more control when you create new user accounts. AuthPoint Mobile App v2.1.0

When you deny an AuthPoint push notification, you can choose to disable push notifications temporarily. You might do this to protect yourself from phishing attacks when you receive many spam push notifications. Attackers send spam push notifications to get users to mistakenly approve an MFA authentication request. When you disable push notifications, you can still authenticate with one-time passwords and QR codes.

The self service portal feature is now publicly available. AuthPoint users can now activate their own hardware and software tokens from the IdP portal. When new users (or existing users that have no active tokens) go to the IdP portal, AuthPoint now prompts them to activate a token. Users that already have one or more active tokens can activate additional tokens after they log in to the IdP portal.

With this feature, it is easier for AuthPoint end-users to manage and activate their own tokens. When deploying hardware tokens, AuthPoint administrators no longer need to assign and activate each hardware token themselves. Now, end-users can activate their own hardware tokens and AuthPoint automatically assigns the activated tokens to the user that activated them.

WatchGuard Hardware Tokens

You can now purchase and use WatchGuard hardware tokens to authenticate with AuthPoint MFA. WatchGuard hardware tokens are electronic devices that generate one-time passwords (OTPs). When you authenticate, you can use a hardware token as an alternative to the token in the AuthPoint mobile app.

To import WatchGuard hardware tokens, you simply provide the serial number of an individual hardware token or a box of hardware tokens. You do not need a seed file. This makes the process to import tokens safer and easier. You can import a WatchGuard hardware token into multiple accounts.
