PSErrorTrace and PSErrorTrace_exch Tools

The PSErrorTrace tool can help you troubleshoot and diagnose issues related to the installation, activation, and compatibility of your endpoint security product. Similarly, the PSErrorTrace_exch tool can help you troubleshoot and diagnose endpoint security issues that are related to Microsoft Exchange protection.

This topic describes how to run the PSErrorTrace tool and generate a diagnostic file.

To install and run PSErrorTrace:

  1. Download the PSErrorTrace tool .EXE file (external link).

If you have an issue related to Microsoft Exchange protection, download the PSErrorTrace_exch tool .EXE file (external link).

  1. Run the pserrortrace.exe file as an administrator.

  1. Click Start.
    The Preparing Data Collection dialog box opens.

  1. Click Start.
    The Collecting Information About the Platform dialog box opens.

  1. From your computer, reproduce the issue.
  2. Click Finish.
    The Save As dialog box opens
  3. Select a location on your computer to save the .psinfo file to and click Save.

Support cannot receive files with the .psinfo file extension as an attachment. Compress the PsErrorTrace.psinfo file to a .ZIP file before you send it to Support.
