Configure Password Requirements for WatchGuard Cloud Directory Users

Applies To: WatchGuard Cloud

You can specify password requirements for WatchGuard Cloud Directory users. This feature enables you to configure password security for WatchGuard Cloud-hosted users. This includes both MFA and non-MFA user accounts. For example, you can increase the minimum required password length, or specify character requirements for passwords.

You can configure these password requirements:

Setting Description Default Value
Minimum Password Length Specifies how many characters passwords must contain 16 characters
Require Lowercase Letters Requires passwords to contain at least one lowercase letter Required
Require Uppercase Letters Requires passwords to contain at least one uppercase letter Required
Require Numbers (0–9) Requires passwords to contain at least one number Required
Require Special Characters Requires passwords to contain at least one special character Not Required
Do Not Allow Previously Used Passwords Specifies how many previously used passwords cannot be used

Three previous passwords
Failed Login Attempts Specifies how many times users can unsuccessfully log in with a password before AuthPoint blocks the user Five failed login attempts are allowed

Password requirements are only enforced when users create or change their passwords. Because of this, existing users that do not update their passwords might have passwords that do not comply with the current password settings.

Users are not required to change their password when an operator changes the password requirements in WatchGuard Cloud.

To change password requirements for WatchGuard Cloud Directory users:

  1. In WatchGuard Cloud, select Configure > Directories and Domain Services.
  2. Select the WatchGuard Cloud Directory.
  3. Select the Password Security tab.
  4. Make your changes, then click Save.
