SMTP-Proxy: Headers

Header rulesets allow you to set values for incoming or outgoing SMTP header filtering. You can add, delete, or modify rules. Any RFC non-conformant message headers are automatically stripped from a message.

  1. In the SMTP Proxy Action configuration, select Headers.
  2. Configure the rule action.
For more information, go to Add, Change, or Delete Rules.
  3. To change settings for another category in this proxy, see the topic for that category.
  4. Save the configuration.

X-WatchGuard Headers

The SMTP proxy adds X-WatchGuard headers to mail messages when Gateway AntiVirus or spamBlocker are enabled:

X-WatchGuard-Spam-Score: 0, clean; 0, virus threat unknown

X-WatchGuard-Mail-Client-IP: 10.0.1.101

X-WatchGuard-Mail-From: [email protected]

X-WatchGuard-AntiVirus: part scanned. clean action=allow

These X headers alter the email body and can cause message processing issues for some email servers because of too many message headers, or result in false positives for mail servers that perform DKIM or DomainKeys anti-spam checks.

Disable X-WatchGuard headers if you have issues with message processing with some email servers.
