You can use SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) to monitor devices on your network. SNMP uses management information bases (MIBs) to define what information and events are monitored. You must set up a separate software application to collect and manage SNMP data.
There are two types of MIBs: standard and enterprise. Standard MIBs are definitions of network and hardware events used by many different devices. Enterprise MIBs are used to give information about events that are specific to a single manufacturer.

About SNMP Polls and Traps
You can configure your Firebox to accept SNMP polls from an SNMP server. The device reports information to the SNMP server, such as the traffic count from each interface, device uptime, the number of TCP packets received and sent, and when each network interface on the Firebox was last modified.
An SNMP trap is an event notification your Firebox sends to an SNMP management station. The trap identifies when a specific condition occurs, such as a value that is more than its predefined threshold. Your device can send a trap for any policy in your configuration. A trap is sent only once, and the receiver does not send any acknowledgment when it gets the trap.
An SNMP inform request is similar to a trap, but the receiver sends a response. If your Firebox does not get a response, it sends the inform request again until the SNMP manager sends a response.
