PatchTrace Tool for Windows Patch Issues

You can use the PatchTrace tool to help troubleshoot issues related to Microsoft Windows software patches. The tool can create trace logs, scan outputs, and registry exports to identify compatibility problems your computer might have with Windows updates. You can run the tool on either a local computer or a remote server. This topic describes how to use the PatchTrace tool to generate a diagnostic file that you can send to Support.

To install the tool and perform a diagnostic scan of a computer:

  1. To download the PatchTrace tool from the Panda website, type this URL into the address bar of your browser:
    https://www.pandasecurity.com/resources/tools/patchtrace.zip
    The PatchTrace.zip file downloads to your computer.
  2. Open the PatchTrace.zip file.
  3. Extract the patchtrace directory to a location of your choice. When prompted, type the password for the archive: panda
  4. From the patchtrace directory, right-click the PatchTrace64.exe file and select Properties.
    The Properties dialog box opens.
  5. From the General tab, make sure that Windows does not report the file as blocked.
    • If no security message exists that indicates the file is blocked, continue to Step 6.
    • If there is a security message that the file might be blocked, clear the Unblock check box and click OK.

  1. From the patchtrace directory, double-click the Script.bat file.
    A Windows User Account Control dialog box opens.
  2. From the User Account Control dialog box, click Yes.
    A command window opens and processes the commands to collect information for Support. The window closes when done. A new file, SendToSupport.zip, is saved in the patchtrace directory.

  1. Send the SendToSupport.zip file to Support with any PSinfo diagnostic logs.
