Verify the Cloud Connection (Windows, Mac, and Linux computers)

Applies To: WatchGuard Advanced EPDR, WatchGuard EPDR, WatchGuard EDR, WatchGuard EDR Core, WatchGuard EPP

Use the Panda Cloud Test File to verify that Windows, Mac, and Linux endpoints with a WatchGuard Endpoint Security product installed can connect to the collective intelligence analysis servers.

The PandaCloudTestFile.exe file is not malicious. If it is detected by your security solution, it simply means that your product is able to connect correctly to the cloud analysis servers.

Windows

Complete these steps to verify the connection on Windows systems:

  1. Download the PandaCloudTestFile.exe file from the Panda Security website.
  2. Run the .EXE file.

If Endpoint Security detects the file as a virus, the connection is working correctly. If it does not detect the file, the protection is not able to connect to WatchGuard's cloud analysis servers. This test file can only be detected as a virus by the Collective Intelligence.

Mac

Complete these steps to verify the connection on Mac systems:

  1. Download the pandacloudtestfileosx.zip file from the Panda Security website.
  2. Unzip the file on the computer where you want to test the connection. The password for the .ZIP file is panda.
  3. Run the unzipped file.

If there is a connection with the WatchGuard cloud analysis servers, the unzipped file is deleted and quarantined.

Linux

Complete these steps to verify the connection on Linux systems:

  1. Download the PandaCloudTestFileELF.zip file from the Panda Security website.
  2. Unzip the file on the computer where you want to check the connection. The password for the .ZIP file is panda.

If there is a connection with the WatchGuard cloud analysis servers, the unzipped file is deleted and quarantined.

Why Do We Use Cloud-Based Analytics?

Older signature-based technologies have proven ineffective to manage malware threats. Also, the exponential increase in local database size significantly impacts performance on most operating systems, particularly macOS.

To minimize this impact, we send the analysis of potentially malicious files such as binaries, scripts, and executables to the cloud. (This excludes some traditional text-based/signature files such as eicar.) To perform this type of testing, we suggest that you use the Panda Cloud Test File tool. The internal structure of this tool is not a text-based file. It is an executable file for Windows endpoints and an ELF binary file for Linux endpoints.
