WatchGuard Expands Marketshare Lead in Integrated Security AppliancesLatest Q1, 2008 Market Research Results from Infonetics Show WatchGuard as #1 in Key Price Band and Growing in OthersSEATTLE - June 13, 2008. WatchGuard® Technologies, a global provider of network security solutions, today announced results of Q1, 2008 Infonetics market data for Network Security Appliances and Software. In that report, WatchGuard is the #1 worldwide revenue marketshare leader for integrated security appliances in the $1,500 to $4,999 price band. As well, WatchGuard continued to show solid revenue gains in other segments where it competes, gaining in the $500 to $1,499; $1,500 to $4,999; $5,000 to $9,999; and $10,000 to $29,999 bands. "The integrated security appliance market is clearly in a state of change, which presents tremendous opportunities for WatchGuard to take market share," said Eric Aarrestad, vice president of marketing at WatchGuard Technologies. "Customers are shaping the market and choosing appliances that offer high security, rock-solid performance, strong management capabilities and best total cost of ownership. For these reasons, we see WatchGuard continuing its successive growth and number one hold in market segment share." According to Infonetics, products between $1,500 and $29,999 command 39 percent of the revenue for the integrated security appliance market. Specifically, the $1,500 to $4,999 price band accounts for 9 percent of revenue in the market, which historically has been WatchGuard’s strongest performing market segment. By geography, Infonetics reports that North America continues to lead the worldwide market with 43 percent of network security appliances and software revenue, followed by EMEA at 31 percent, Asia Pacific at 21 percent, and Central and Latin America at 5 percent. Likewise, WatchGuard sees comparable revenue splits of worldwide markets. "Integrated security appliances and software are the backbone of network security, and will continue to function as such for a long time," said Jeff Wilson principal analyst, network security at Infonetics Research. "Although new network security technologies will appear, eventually their key features will be absorbed into integrated appliances, and it is this cycle of stand alone products becoming features in existing products over time that is the primary driver for growth in the network security product market."
