Enable Feature Key Synchronization and Alarm Notification
By default, your Firebox does not automatically update the feature key when features expire.
In the feature key settings, you can enable your Firebox to automatically download the latest feature key from the WatchGuard website when a feature has expired. You can also configure your Firebox to send a notification when a feature has expired or is about to expire.
When you enable automatic feature key synchronization:
- The device immediately checks the expiration dates in the feature key, and continues to check once each day.
- If any feature has expired, or will expire within three days, the device automatically downloads the latest feature key from WatchGuard once each day, until it successfully downloads a feature key that does not have expired features.
- In a FireCluster, the cluster master synchronizes the feature keys for all cluster members.
- If the device attempts to synchronize the feature key and fails to retrieve a feature key from the WatchGuard server, the device sends an error message to the log file. The error message includes information about the type of failure.
When you enable alarm notification, the Firebox sends one alarm notification when any feature is expired or will expire within 90 days, 30 days, 5 days, 4 days, 3 days, 2 days or 1 day. If more than one feature is expired or will expire, only one alarm is sent. The alarm includes the names of the features that are expired or will expire.
- Connect to Fireware Web UI.
- Select System > Feature Key.
The Feature Key page appears. - Select the Enable automatic feature key synchronization check box.
- Select the Send an alarm notification when feature key is going to expired or has been expired check box.
- Click Notifications to configure the notification method. For more information about notification methods, see Set Logging and Notification Preferences.
- Open Policy Manager.
- Select Setup > Feature Keys.
The Firebox Feature Key dialog box appears. - Select the Enable automatic feature key synchronization check box.
- Select the Send an alarm notification when feature key is going to be expired or has been expired check box.
