PanAsiatic Achieves Reliable and Secured Call Center Services with WatchGuard

Background

PanAsiatic Solutions, a business process outsourcing (BPO) company proudly based in Bacolod, Philippines, provides dedicated support services through their call center of over 3000 staff members. A privately owned corporation, the dynamic team strives to apply innovation to drive efficiency and meet the ever-changing demands required of the BPO market. To keep pace with the high demands of business continuity and to provide a high level of service support to their Clients, PanAsiatic Solutions has invested resources in hiring and training the right staff, efficient desktop workstations, state-of-the-art voice over IP (VoIP) solutions, and building a strong IT infrastructure to back the entire operations.

The Challenge

PanAsiatic Solutions initially used Cisco ASA and TMG appliances, but needed to transition to a reliable, multifunction firewall solution with greater capabilities to meet their growing network demands. With PanAsiatic starting to handle credit card transactions as part of their processing solutions, any security solution would also need to help them meet PCI DSS and other compliance mandates.

Implementing WatchGuard

From the time they first deployed the WatchGuard XTM 1050 to compliment their existing firewall solutions, PanAsiatic has been very satisfied with how easy the solution is to learn and manage, as well as the high level of support services provided by WatchGuard.

"WatchGuard is much more user-friendly than the other brands we considered. Even for me at an executive level without much IT training, I can figure out how to block site access and grant user permissions. And, reporting features are free and easy to read and understand," asserted Ms. Siony Hijara, Site Director of PanAsiatic Solutions. "The WatchGuard solution is definitely the right choice for us to keep up with the fast-changing requirements of our clients."

Within a few years, PanAsiatic expanded to 3200 staff members, with a daily requirement of 1700 workstation users for VoIP and web access across the Internet. To meet this need, PanAsiatic Solutions deployed a pair of WatchGuard XTM 2050s running in High Availability, with the firewall, IPS, and URL filtering services turned on, providing unified threat management (UTM).

"I really like the ease of management and having all the required security features within one appliance. That to me is what I value most when using WatchGuard XTM," assessed Emerson Alcanzare, IT manager, PanAsiatic Solutions.

One of WatchGuard's most impressive capabilities for PanAsiatic was demonstrated when testing the high availability failover capability.

"The failover happened within a span of a few seconds, at the point where we had more than 1200 active users on the Internet, filled with voice calls, and using almost the maximum bandwidth," explained Emerson. "We checked with the call center staff, and were really glad to hear that there were no calls dropped at all during the failover. This proves to us that WatchGuard can deliver the security necessary for any VoIP system that demands high reliability."

PanAsiatic also realized some unexpected benefits from the WatchGuard XTM solutions, such as load-balancing, which saves from having to purchase a separate load balancer for their network.

Expanding in the Future with WatchGuard

The new XTM smart firewalls have now completely replaced the Cisco ASA and TMG appliances at PanAsiatic Solutions.
