Get Information About Applications

When you configure Application Control, or when you look at Application Control reports, you might see application names you are not familiar with. To get information about any application that Application Control can identify, you can look up the application on the WatchGuard Security Portal at https://securityportal.watchguard.com/Applications.

Screen shot of the Applications page in the Security Portal

On the Security Portal — Applications page, you can:

  • See a list of all applications that Application Control can identify.
  • Search for an application by name.
  • See a description of the application and supported application behaviors.

In Fireware v12.6.1 and higher, the Application Control signature set version number is 18.x. For Fireware releases lower than v12.6.1, the signature set version number is 4.x. On the Security Portal — Applications page, from the Signature Set drop-down list, select the signature set you want to see information for.

Application Control and Traffic Monitor

If you have enabled logging for Application Control, you can use Firebox System Manager Traffic Monitor to find more information about the Application Control signatures in the traffic log messages. To look up Application Control signature information in the Security Portal, right-click on a traffic log message.

For more information, go to Run Diagnostic Tasks to Learn More About Log Messages.
