Configure Multicast Routing

You can enable multicast routing on your Firebox and configure interfaces as Rendezvous Point (RP) candidates.

In PIM-SM mode, the central point in the multicast domain is the RP. When you enable the Firebox as an RP candidate, the Firebox periodically communicates its RP candidacy to the PIM-SM network. RP elections on the Firebox occur dynamically.

  1. Select Network > Multicast Routing.
  2. Select the Enable Multicast Routing check box.
    This enables the PIM-SM multicast routing protocol globally. You must continue to Step 4 and add multicast interfaces for multicast routing to work.

  1. Click Add.
    The Add Multicast Interface dialog box appears.

  1. Click Select.
    The Select Multicast Interface dialog box appears.

  1. Select an interface and click OK.
  2. To configure the interface you selected as a Rendezvous Point candidate, select the RP Candidate check box.

  1. Click OK.
  2. Click Save.

The alias Any-Multicast and these two policies are added to your configuration:

  • MR-PIM-Allow
  • MR-IGMP-Allow
  1. Select Network > Multicast.
    The Multicast Setup dialog box appears.
  2. Select the Enable Multicast Routing check box.
    This enables the PIM-SM multicast routing protocol globally. You must continue to Step 3 and add multicast interfaces for multicast routing to work.

  1. Click Add.
    The Add Multicast Interface dialog box appears.

  1. Click Select.
    The Select an Interface dialog box appears.

  1. Select an interface and click OK.
    The Add Multicast Interface dialog box appears.
  2. To configure the interface you selected as a Rendezvous Point candidate, select the RP Candidate check box.

  1. Click OK.

The alias Any-Multicast and these two policies are added to your configuration:

  • MR-PIM-Allow
  • MR-IGMP-Allow
