Applies To: WatchGuard CloudDR
Templates in WatchGuard CloudDR are available as a beta feature.
Templates enable Service Providers to centrally manage and deploy issue and threat rules across multiple customer organizations. For information on how to create templates, go to:

Templates solve several common management challenges:
- Apply customized rule settings to multiple organizations at once.
- Ensure newly onboarded organizations automatically receive the appropriate rule configuration.
- Maintain different rule sets for different types of customers.
- Reduce the need to repeatedly configure the same rules and automations for each organization.
How Templates Work
Templates allow you to can create and manage a standard set of rules from your Service Provider account and automatically apply them to groups of organizations. Templates use a tag-based assignment model.
- Create or customize a rule in the Service Provider account.
- Assign one or more tags to the rule.
- Assign matching tags to organizations.
- Apply changes to deploy the rule configuration.
When a rule tag matches an organization tag, CloudDR deploys that rule to the organization. Tags act as logical groups that help you organize organizations and determine which template rules apply to them. For example, newly onboarded organizations can be tagged New to automatically receive a predefined rule set.
Rule Customization and Inheritance
You can create customized versions of built-in rules with changes to:
- Detection criteria
- Severity
- Notifications
- Automations
CloudDR tracks the relationship between original and customized rules so you can control which version applies to each organization. Organizations can inherit the default rule, a customized version, or both, depending on their assigned tags.
Templates provide a baseline configuration that is propagated to organizations. You can also make organization-specific changes when needed.
At the organization level, you can:
- Add additional rules.
- Modify inherited rules.
- Configure organization-specific settings.
- Override template-derived behavior for unique customer requirements.
This allows centralized management and preserves flexibility for individual organizations
