Co-Term Panda Licenses
When you activate a new Panda license, you can combine it with an existing license to synchronize renewal dates. The activation process merges the new license with the selected license and the two licenses are co-terminated, or co-termed. This makes it easier to manage and renew your licenses.
Co-termed licenses are merged together and a new expiration date is calculated based on your updated license count and the term length of the license you activated.
End-Users
If you have an end-user account, each time you activate a Panda license key, your new license is automatically co-termed with your current active license. End-user accounts can only have one license per product.
Partners
If you have a WatchGuard Partner account, only NFR licenses are co-termed. All other licenses are activated immediately as pool licenses. For pool licenses, the expiration date is determined when you assign the license.
If you purchased a Passport license bundle and already have a license for one of the bundled products, the co-term calculations are applied to that product only. For more information, see About Passport Licenses.
Renewal Date Calculation for Co-Termed Licenses
When you co-term licenses, they are merged together and a new expiration date is calculated based on your updated license count and the term length of the license you activated. The only exception to this is if you choose to extend your license and reduce your license count. In that case, your license count is reduced immediately and your expiration date is extended by the term of the license you purchased.
Here is the calculation used to determine the expiration date when two licenses are co-termed:
New Expiration Date = | Today's Date + | (current license count x days until license expires) + (purchased license count x term days) |
final license count |
The co-term calculation is primarily used when you add endpoints or extend your license with more endpoints than you currently have. When you activate a license with the same number of endpoints that your active license has, or with fewer endpoints, your active license is extended by the term of the license you purchased. So if you have 100 endpoints and activate a one year license with 100 endpoints, your expiration date is extended by a year.
The co-term calculation is the same whether you add endpoints or extend your license.
You have a license for 20 endpoints that expires in 45 days, and you want to add 10 endpoints on a 1 year license (you purchased 10 endpoint licenses with a 1 year term length). To do so, you activate your license and select Add Users in the license activation wizard.
To calculate the new expiration date for your license, we can use the co-term calculation formula with these values:
- Current license count = 20
- Days until license expires = 45
- Purchased license count = 10
- Term days for purchased endpoint licenses = 365
- Final license count = 30 endpoints (20 + 10)
New Expiration Date = | Today's Date + | (20 endpoints x 45 days) + (10 endpoints x 365 days) |
30 endpoints |
When we calculate the value in the formula above, we get 4,550 ÷ 30 = 151.67. We round this value up to 152. So the new expiration date for 30 endpoints is 152 days from the activation date of your new license.
You have a 1 year license for 10 endpoints that expires in 200 days, and you want to add 50 endpoints on a 3 year license (you purchased 50 endpoint licenses with a 3 year term length). To do so, you activate your license and select Add Users in the license activation wizard.
To calculate the new expiration date for your license, we can use the co-term calculation formula with these values:
- Current license count = 10
- Days until license expires = 200
- Purchased license count = 50
- Term days for purchased endpoint licenses = 365 x 3
- Final license count = 60 endpoints (10 + 50)
New Expiration Date = | Today's Date + | (10 endpoints x 200 days) + (50 endpoints x 365 days x 3) |
60 endpoints |
When we calculate the value in the formula above, we get 56,750 ÷ 60 = 945.83. We round this value up to 946. So the new expiration date for 60 endpoints is 946 days from the activation date of your new license.
You have a license for 100 endpoints that expires in 10 days, and you want to renew your license and also add 50 additional endpoints on a 1 year license (you purchased 150 endpoint licenses with a 1 year term length). To do so, you activate your license and select Extend License in the license activation wizard.
To calculate the new expiration date for your license, we can use the co-term calculation formula with these values:
- Current license count = 100
- Days until license expires = 10
- Purchased license count = 150
- Term days for purchased endpoint licenses = 365
- Final license count = 150 endpoints (100 renewed + 50 added)
New Expiration Date = | Today's Date + | (100 endpoints x 10 days) + (150 endpoints x 365 days) |
150 endpoints |
When we calculate the value in the formula above, we get 55,750 ÷ 150 = 371.67. We round this value up to 372. So the new expiration date for 150 endpoints is 372 days from the activation date of your new license.
You have a license for 100 endpoints that expired 10 days ago, and you want to renew your license for another year (you purchased 100 endpoint licenses with a 1 year term length). To do so, you activate your license and select Extend License in the license activation wizard.
To calculate the new expiration date for your license, we can use the co-term calculation formula with these values:
- Current license count = 100
- Days until license expires = −10
- Purchased license count = 100
- Term days for purchased endpoint licenses = 365
- Final license count = 100 endpoints
New Expiration Date = | Today's Date + | (100 endpoints x -10 days) + (100 endpoints x 365 days) |
100 endpoints |
When we calculate the value in the formula above, we get 35,500 ÷ 100 = 355. So the new expiration date for your 100 endpoints is 355 days from the activation date of your new license (the term length of your new license minus the 10 days).
You have a license for 100 endpoints that expires in 10 days, and you want to renew your license for another year with only 80 endpoints (you purchased 80 endpoint licenses with a 1 year term length). To do so, you activate your license and select Extend License in the license activation wizard.
When you renew a license with fewer endpoints , your license count is reduced immediately and the expiration date of your license is extended by the term length of the license you purchased and activated. So in this case, your license count is immediately reduced to 80 endpoints and your new expiration date for your 80 endpoints is 1 year from your current expiration date.
When you renew your license with fewer endpoints, you should do so near your expiration date. If you activate the license key before your expiration date, your endpoint license count is reduced immediately.
