Activate an AuthPoint License

Applies To: AuthPoint Multi-Factor Authentication, AuthPoint Total Identity Security

AuthPoint term licenses are activated and managed in the WatchGuard Support Center. You can activate a license key on the Activate Products page, and on the AuthPoint licenses page you can see the current AuthPoint licenses associated with your account.

When you activate an AuthPoint license key, you have several options for how to use your license. In the activation process, you can:

  • Add users to a license
  • Extend a license
  • Add a new license (Service Providers only)

After you activate your license key, the users on that license are added to your account. If you have a Service Provider account, the users are added to your inventory in WatchGuard Cloud. From your inventory, you can allocate users to managed accounts or to your own account. For more information, see WatchGuard Cloud for Service Providers.

Service Providers can activate both AuthPoint Multi-Factor Authentication and AuthPoint Total Identity Security licenses to add users to their inventory. Subscriber accounts can only have one AuthPoint product (Multi-Factor Authentication or Total Identity Security).

NFR Licenses

For Service Providers, when you activate an NFR license the users or endpoints are automatically allocated to your Subscriber account. This behavior is different from other license activations, where the users or endpoints are added to your inventory.

If your account uses AuthPoint Multi-Factor Authentication, we recommend that you do not activate NFR licenses for AuthPoint Total Identity Security because the NFR license activation can cause your account to become overallocated.

For example, you are a Service Provider and have allocated 50 AuthPoint Multi-Factor Authentication users to your own Subscriber account so your company can use MFA. When you activate an NFR license for 10 AuthPoint Total Identity Security users, WatchGuard Cloud automatically allocates the 10 Total Identity Security NFR users to your Subscriber account, which upgrades the account to AuthPoint Total Identity Security. Because Subscriber accounts can have only one AuthPoint product (Multi-Factor Authentication or Total Identity Security) and the account has only 10 Total Identity Security users from the NFR license, the remaining 40 active users become overallocated and cannot authenticate to resources protected by AuthPoint.

Initial License Activation

The license activation process is different the first time you activate a license. Follow the steps in this section to activate an AuthPoint license key for the first time.

If you have an active AuthPoint license, or if you are a Service Provider with an active AuthPoint trial, follow the steps in the next section.

  1. Go to https://www.watchguard.com/ and log in to the WatchGuard Support Center with your WatchGuard account user name and password.
  2. On the Support Center Home page, select My WatchGuard > Activate Products.
    The Activate Products page appears.
  3. Type or paste your license key.
  4. Click Next.
The Activate a Product wizard begins.
  5. If this is the first license you have activated and you do not have an active AuthPoint trial, you are prompted to name your license. Type a name for your AuthPoint license to help you identify your license on the WatchGuard website and in WatchGuard Cloud.
  6. Click Activate.
The Activation is Complete page appears.

Your license is now active and the users on this license are automatically allocated to your account. If you are a Service Provider, the users are added to your inventory.

Click AuthPoint Dashboard to log in to your WatchGuard Cloud account as an operator. You can manage AuthPoint from the AuthPoint management UI in WatchGuard Cloud.

If you are a Subscriber with an active AuthPoint trial, when you activate your first license it replaces your trial license. The trial ends and your new license becomes active effective immediately. Your new license inherits the name of your trial license.

The remainder of your trial is not added to the expiration date of your new license.

Activate Additional AuthPoint Licenses

If you have an active AuthPoint license, when you activate new license keys in the Support Center they are used to modify the current active AuthPoint license (add users or extend the license).

If you are a Service Provider, you can choose to modify an active license or add a new, separate license.

  5. (Service Providers only) On the Step 2: Add Product Details page of the activation wizard, from the drop-down list, select the name of the license you want to extend or add users to, or enter a license name to add a new license.
    Additional fields appear.

Only Service Providers can have multiple active licenses. Subscribers do not see this page in the Activate a Product wizard.

  6. Select Add Users to add users to your license or select Extend License to extend the renewal date for your license. When you make a selection, the Change Summary shows your updated user count and license expiration date.

When you choose to extend your license, your user count is updated to match the number of users on the license you purchased.

  7. Click Activate.
The Activation is Complete page appears.

Your license is now active and the users on this license are automatically allocated to your account. If you are a Service Provider, the users are added to your inventory.
