Monitor Sensors

The Monitoring > Managed Devices tab displays the APs that operate in WIPS sensor mode.

This table provides a description of the available columns that you can display:

Field Description
Active status Indicates if the sensor is active or inactive.
RSSI Observed RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) value for the sensor.
Name User-defined name of the sensor.
MAC Address Unique 48-bit address of the AP/ 802.11 PHY modes used by the sensor.
Channel Channel number on which the AP operates. The channel is shown as Dual for sensors that operate on both 802.11a and 802.11b/g simultaneously.
Protocol 802.11 protocol used – 802.11a, 802.11b only, 802.11b/g, or 802.11a/b/g, with or without 802.11n or 802.11ac capability.
Clients Number of active clients associated with the sensor.
SSID For a sensor, it specifies the operating SSID that prospective clients use to recognize the network.
Security Security standard such as Open, WEP, WPA, 802.11i, or Unknown. This is derived from the device template applied to the AP.
Location Location of the sensor.
Network Network to which sensor is connected.
Up/Down Since Date and time since the sensor has communicated with WatchGuard Wi-Fi Cloud servers.
Networked Status Indicates if the sensor is on the network.
Vendor Name of the sensor vendor.
Is Banned Indicates if the sensor is a banned sensor.
Quarantine Status Indicates if the sensor is quarantined.
First Detected At Date and time on which the sensor was first detected.
Encryption Encryption protocol used by the sensor.
Troubleshooting Indicates if troubleshooting is in progress for the sensor.
MFP/11w Indicates if MFP/11w is enabled on the sensor.
Authentication Authentication protocol used by sensor.
Classification WIPS classification of the sensor.
Manually Classified Indicates if the sensor is manually classified for WIPS.

Toolbar

You can perform various operations on the devices with the options on the toolbar.

To perform any operation facilitated by the toolbar, you need to select a device.

Sensor Information Pages

When you select a sensor on the Monitoring > Managed Devices page, the information related to the selected sensor is displayed on multiple pages. You can select a page number to view more details related to the sensor.

3 — Events

4 — Channel Occupancy

5 — Interference

6 — Mesh Network Links

View Sensor Properties

Select a sensor name to view the device properties. You can edit certain sensor properties. Double-click the property to edit its value.

Click the Device properties settings icon icon to choose which device properties to display.

This table provides a description of the available sensor device properties:

Field Description
Active Status Indicates whether the sensor is active or inactive.
Name Name of the sensor..
MAC Address Unique 48-bit address of the sensor/802.11 PHY modes used by the sensor.
Country of Operation Country name in which the sensor operates.
Location Sensor location.
Is Placed Specifies whether the sensor has been placed on a layout for a location.
Device Template Specifies the device template applied to the sensor.
Device Tag Text that provides additional information about the sensor; for example, Hawaii Conference Room, Bldg 15 – Cubicle G2.
IP Address IP address if the sensor is authorized. The field is blank if the sensor is rogue or external.
First Detected At Date and time on which the sensor was first detected.
Up Since Date and time since the sensor has been up.
Operating Mode Specifies the operating mode of the device.
Software Build Specifies the build number of the device,
Capability This field is visible only if the selected sensor is an 802.11n sensor.
Channel Scan Capability (a) This field indicates the scanning capacity of the sensor for 802.11 a channels.
Channel Defend Capability (a) This field indicates the defend capacity of the sensor for 802.11 a channels.
Channel Scan Capability (b/g) This field indicates the scanning capacity of the sensor for 802.11 b/g channels.
Channel Defend Capability (b/g) This field indicates the defend capacity of the sensor for 802.11 b/g channels.

View Visible VLANs

To view the current sensor events for the selected sensor:

  1. Select Monitoring > Managed Devices.
  2. Select a sensor.
  3. Select Page 1 to view the VLANs visible to the sensor.

View Visible Sensors

To view the current sensor events for the selected sensor:

  1. Select Monitoring > Managed Devices.
  2. Select a sensor.
  3. Select Page 2 to view the sensors visible to the sensor.

View Visible Clients

To view the current sensor events for the selected sensor:

  1. Select Monitoring > Managed Devices.
  2. Select a sensor.
  3. Select Page 2 to view the clients visible to the sensor.

View Sensor Events

To view the current sensor events for the selected sensor:

  1. Select Monitoring > Managed Devices.
  2. Select a sensor.
  3. Select Page 3 to view sensor events for the selected sensor.

View Channel Occupancy

To view the current sensor events for the selected sensor:

  1. Select Monitoring > Managed Devices.
  2. Select a sensor.
  3. Select Page 4 to view the channel occupancy data for the selected sensor.

View Interference

To view the current sensor events for the selected sensor:

  1. Select Monitoring > Managed Devices.
  2. Select a sensor.
  3. Select Page 5 to view the interference data for the selected sensor.

View Mesh Network Links

To view the current sensor events for the selected sensor:

  1. Select Monitoring > Managed Devices.
  2. Select a sensor.
  3. Select Page 6 to view the mesh network links for the selected sensor.

Change Sensor Location

To change the location of an sensor on the floor map:

  1. Select Monitoring > Managed Devices.
  2. Select the location.
  3. Select the sensor whose location you want to change.
  4. Click the Change location icon icon.
  5. Select the new location for the sensor.
  6. Click OK.

Filter Sensor Details

You can choose the columns to view or filter the sensor information to display based on filter text matching the text in the selected column.

For example, if you want to view only the sensor with WPA security:

  1. Select Monitoring > Managed Devices.
  2. Select the location.
  3. Select Security in the upper pane.
  4. Click the field and type "WPA" as the filter text.
  5. Press the Enter key to view the sensors with WPA security.

To choose the columns to be viewed:

  1. Select Monitoring > Managed Devices.
  2. Select the location.
  3. Select any column name in the upper pane .
  4. Select the Columns option in the menu and select the check boxes for the columns to display.

Search Sensors

You can search for a sensor using the name, MAC address, or SSID of the sensor.

To search for a sensor or sensors:

  1. Select Monitoring > Managed Devices.
  2. Select the location where you want to search sensors.
  3. Type the name, MAC address, or SSID of the sensor in Quick Search text box.
  4. Press the Enter key.
    The sensor or sensors that match the search criteria are displayed in the upper pane.

Delete Sensor

To delete a sensor:

  1. Select Monitoring > Managed Devices.
  2. Select the location where you want to delete the sensor.
  3. Select one or more sensors to delete and click More on the toolbar.
  4. Click the Delete option.
  5. Click Yes to confirm.

Print Sensor List for Location

To print the sensor list for a location:

  1. Select Monitoring > Managed Devices.
  2. Select the location.
  3. Select the columns that you want in the printed list.
  4. Click the Print icon icon.
  5. Click Print.
