Manage Hotspot SSIDs

To configure and manage a list of hotspot SSIDs, select Configuration > WIPS > Advanced Settings > HotSpot SSIDs.

Many APs use well-known hotspot SSID names. If a client on your wireless network probes for a default hotspot SSID, it is at risk of connecting to an external neighborhood AP without the user's knowledge .If an AP on your network uses a default hotspot SSID, it can attract rogue clients from outside your network.

You can add these SSIDs to the Hotspot SSID list to prevent connection to these SSIDs.

Add Hotspot SSIDs

Commonly known hotspot SSIDs are predefined in the list.

To add a hotspot SSID:

  1. Select Configuration > WIPS > Advanced Settings > HotSpot SSIDs.
  2. Click Add New HotSpot SSID.
  3. Type a new hotspot SSID and click OK.
    If an AP with the hotspot SSID is detected, an event is generated.

To add a blank SSID, click Add without entering any text. The list shows the SSID as NULL.

Search Hotspot SSIDs

To search for hotspot IDs:

  1. Select Configuration > WIPS > Advanced Settings > HotSpot SSID.
  2. Type a search string in the Search SSID text box and press the Enter key. 
    A list of hotspot SSIDs matching the search text appears.

To clear the search string, click the X icon next to the Search SSID box.

Delete Hotspot SSID

To delete hotspot SSIDs:

  1. Select Configuration > WIPS > Advanced Settings > HotSpot SSID.
  2. Click the Delete link for the SSID to delete.
  3. Click Yes to confirm.

Restore Default Hotspot SSID list

To restore the default hotspot SSID list:

  1. Select Configuration >WIPS > Advanced Settings > HotSpot SSIDs.
  2. Click Restore Defaults.
  3. Click Yes to confirm.
