Complete WebBlocker Server System Maintenance

From the System Maintenance section of the System Settings page Status tab, you can complete system maintenance for the WebBlocker Server:

  • Reboot the WebBlocker Server
  • Upgrade to a new version
  • Restore WebBlocker Server to the default settings
  • Shut down the WebBlocker Server VM

Reboot WebBlocker Server

When you reboot WebBlocker Server, all the services and processes are restarted, and the WebBlocker Server virtual machine (VM) reboots.

To reboot the WebBlocker Server:

  1. In the Status tab, System Maintenance section, click Reboot.
    A confirmation message appears.
  2. Click Yes.
WebBlocker Server reboots. You must log in again.

It can take some time for the WebBlocker Server reboot procedure to complete, the system to restart, and the Login page to appear. If the Login page does not appear quickly, do not restart the WebBlocker Server VM. Instead, you can open a console connection to WebBlocker Server to monitor the status of the reboot process. For more information, go to Console Access to the WebBlocker Server.

Upgrade WebBlocker Server

When a new version of the WebBlocker Server is available, you can get the upgrade file from WatchGuard and use it to upgrade your WebBlocker Server.

Do not reboot your WebBlocker Server virtual machine before the WebBlocker Server upgrade completes.

To upgrade WebBlocker Server:

  1. In the Status tab, System Maintenance section, click Upgrade.
The Upgrade WebBlocker dialog box appears.
  2. Click Browse and select the WebBlocker Server upgrade file: watchguard-webblocker_[version]_amd64.tgz.
  3. Click OK.
The upgrade file is uploaded to WebBlocker Server.

After you complete the upgrade, your WebBlocker Server reboots to restart the WebBlocker Server services and processes, but the WebBlocker Server virtual machine (VM) does not reboot. Make sure you do not power off your WebBlocker Server VM before the upgrade is complete. When the upgrade is complete and WebBlocker Server has rebooted, the login page appears.

Restore WebBlocker Server Defaults

You can return WebBlocker Server to the factory-default settings. When you restore WebBlocker Server, the Administrator password is reset to readwrite, internal log files are deleted, and the IP Type is changed to DHCP which can cause the WebBlocker Server IP address to change.

To restore WebBlocker Server to the factory-default settings:

  1. In the Status tab, System Maintenance section, click Restore.
    A confirmation message appears.
  2. Click Yes.
    The Login page appears.

If the IP address for WebBlocker Server changed, the Login page does not automatically appear, and you must manually type the new IP address in your web browser. For information about how to find your WebBlocker Server IP address, go to the Install the WebBlocker Server topic for your Virtual Machine platform.

Shut Down the WebBlocker Server VM

To safely shut down your WebBlocker Server VM, you can shut down your WebBlocker Server VM from your virtual machine client or from the System Settings page System Maintenance section.

After the WebBlocker Server is shut down, it is not available for URL category lookups. WebBlocker will allow or deny access to all websites, based on the value selected from the When a URL is uncategorized drop-down list on the Categories tab in the WebBlocker action.

To shut down the WebBlocker Server VM:

  1. In the Status tab, System Maintenance section, click Shut Down.
    A confirmation message appears.
  2. Click Yes.
The WebBlocker Server VM is safely shut down.
  3. Close your web browser window or tab.

After the WebBlocker Server VM is shut down, before you can log in to WebBlocker Server again, you must connect to the virtual machine platform client where you deployed your WebBlocker Server VM and power on the WebBlocker Server VM.
