About the Access Portal

The Access Portal is a clientless VPN solution that provides secure remote access to common web applications that use HTML, HTML5, and JavaScript technologies. With the Access Portal, you do not need to install a software or hardware client.

When you configure the Access Portal, users only need a web browser to connect to these types of resources through the Access Portal:

  • External third-party web applications
  • RDP and SSH sessions to local resources
  • Internal applications (reverse proxy)
  • Microsoft Exchange services (reverse proxy)

The Firebox proxies HTTPS connections to Access Portal applications. You can specify which applications and application groups that users and user groups can connect to. You can also configure single sign-on (SSO) with the SAML authentication protocol and your preferred identity provider.

In Fireware 12.5.5 or higher, connections to the Access Portal must use TLS 1.2 or higher.

In Fireware v12.5 or higher, you can configure reverse proxy actions so users can connect to internal web applications and Microsoft Exchange services with an external URL.

To align the Access Portal design with your brand, you can upload custom images for the header, background, login logo, and application icons. You can also upload a custom CSS file to customize page elements.

The Access Portal is supported on these device models with a Standard Support, Basic Security Suite, or Total Security Suite license:

  • Firebox T40, T45, T80, T85
  • Firebox M290, M390, M590, M690, M4800, M5800
