About DSL on the Firebox T10-D

The Firebox T10-D is an ADSL/VDSL device. Interface 0 is an RJ11 interface that supports ADSL and VDSL.

The Firebox T10-D supports PPPoE over Ethernet (PPPoE) only. It does not support PPP over ATM (PPPoA).

The Firebox T10-D supports:

  • VDSL2 8a, 8b, 8c, 8d, 12a, 12b, 17a, 30a profiles
  • ADSL1/2/2+
  • DSL mode — Annex A

Configure an ADSL Connection

For ADSL (Asynchronous DSL), the service provider requires the device to support a specific Virtual Path Identifier (VPI) and Virtual Circuit Identifier (VCI). The Firebox T10-D includes built-in support for VPI and VCI values required by most ADSL providers. For a list of the supported VPI and VCI settings, and a list of the VPI and VCI values required by many service providers, see Firebox T10-D VDSL and ADSL requirements by service provider in the WatchGuard Knowledge Base.

There are no DSL settings to configure. Configure interface 0 as you would any other external interface, based on the connection requirements of your Internet service provider. For more information about external interface settings, see Configure an External Interface.

Configure a VDSL Connection

For VDSL connections,  you must configure the external interface to use a specific VLAN ID.

To configure the VLAN on your Firebox T10-D:

  1. Add an external VLAN, with the VLAN ID and connection settings required by your ISP.
  2. Configure interface 0 as a VLAN interface, and configure the interface to send and receive tagged traffic for the external VLAN.

For a list of VDSL service providers and the required VLAN IDs for each, see Firebox T10-D VDSL and ADSL requirements by service provider in the WatchGuard Knowledge Base.

For an example of how to configure a VLAN interface for VDSL, see Configure a VLAN for VDSL.

See DSL Interface Status

You can see the link status of the DSL interface (eth0) in the Front Panel tab of Firebox System Manager.

You can see the link status of the DSL interface (eth0) on the Interfaces dashboard.

The Status Report tab in Firebox System Manager shows more detailed information about DSL interface status, including the ADSL or VDSL link status and the DSL firmware version. You can also use the CLI command diagnose hardware dsl to see the same status information.

To see DSL status in Firebox System Manager:

  1. Start WatchGuard System Manager and connect to the Firebox.
  2. Launch Firebox System Manager.
  3. Select the Status Report tab.
  4. Find the Status of DSL section.

For more information about how to use the Fireware Command Line Interface, see the Fireware Command Line Interface Reference available at https://www.watchguard.com/wgrd-help/documentation/xtm.

For information about the status indicators on your Firebox T10-D, see the Firebox T10 Hardware Guide.

Install a DSL Firmware or Configuration Update

The Firebox T10-D has separate firmware component that controls the DSL interface. When you upgrade Fireware OS, the latest DSL firmware is also installed. If WatchGuard releases a separate update to the DSL firmware or the DSL configuration settings, you can install the update as an XTM component package.

For information about how to install an XTM component package, see Upgrade Fireware OS or WatchGuard System Manager.
