Because a "safety mode" option is available in most major Internet search tools, schools may think they have the protection they need from inappropriate content delivered over their networks. But that option is not enough to ensure students are safe.
These built-in Internet safe search capabilities (for example, Google Safe Search and Lock Safe Search) must be set for each browser and can be controlled at the individual device level. They are only as effective as the loopholes they introduce.

WatchGuard Safe Search Enforcement is part of the firewall operating system in all WatchGuard XTM appliances.* This feature overrides personal browser settings, enabling IT administrators to make Safe Search compulsory on the school network.
This is especially useful for schools and libraries in the US that must lock down Internet search results to comply with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA).
How It Works
School IT administrators only need to click a single checkbox in the XTM OS interface to set safe search policy at the gateway, overriding whatever preference their users set in their browsers.
