WatchGuard Announces Corporate RebrandNew look for long-time security industry leaderSeattle, WA - August 28, 2007. WatchGuard® Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of security appliances and unified threat management (UTM) solutions, announced today that it has implemented a major corporate rebranding effort. The rebranding coincides with the release of several important upgrades to its Firebox® X family of network security solutions. The corporate rebrand initiative capped a year of substantial growth and change for WatchGuard. Last October the company announced its acquisition by private equity firms Francisco Partners and Vector Capital. Francisco Partners is one of the world's largest technology-focused private equity funds, while Vector Capital is a private equity boutique specializing in spinouts, buyouts, and recapitalizations of established technology businesses. In April, Joe Wang, former CEO of LANDesk Software, took the reins as president and CEO of WatchGuard and began an in-depth reorganization of his executive team. Just last week the company launched Firebox X Edge 8.6, and announced the upcoming release of Fireware® 9.1 for its Firebox X Core™ and Peak™ UTM solutions. Both releases are aimed at improving overall performance, increasing reliability, and enhancing the ease of use of the products' management capabilities. "WatchGuard's new look emphasizes its innovative approach to network security," said Mark Romano, director of channel marketing at WatchGuard Technologies. "The new brand better reflects the superior proactive capabilities of WatchGuard security solutions to identify and block network threats. WatchGuard's sophisticated proxy technologies are capable of recognizing previously unknown attacks, thus providing an additional layer of powerful protection that our major competitors have not been able to duplicate." WatchGuard's new logo began appearing on its corporate web site and in its promotional material late last week. The company will continue to roll out its new branding strategy throughout the coming month. WatchGuard, a pioneer in the firewall and network security industry, was among the very first technology companies to deploy security in an appliance form factor in 1996. Since that time, the company has provided network security products to hundreds of thousands of businesses worldwide. In recent years, WatchGuard has become a leader in the unified threat management (UTM) security solutions market. Its family of Firebox X firewall/VPN models integrates anti-spyware, anti-spam, anti-virus, intrusion prevention, and URL filtering in a single appliance for comprehensive threat protection, managed from an intuitive, centralized user interface.
