SAN FRANCISCO (RSA) – March 2, 2010. WatchGuard® Technologies, a global leader of business security solutions, today at RSA and CeBIT unveiled a new line of multifunction security appliances, the WatchGuard XTM 2 Series. Ideal for small businesses and branch offices with up to 50 people, the WatchGuard XTM 2 Series provides comprehensive network, application and data security in one easy to manage appliance.
"Small businesses are increasingly becoming the targets of hackers, malware and botnets," said Tim Helming, Director of Product Management, WatchGuard Technologies. "Knowing this, WatchGuard developed the XTM 2 Series, an enterprise class appliance capable of blocking dangerous web content, and protecting against hackers, spam and viruses. Additionally, the XTM 2 Series includes integrated VPN connectivity for remote and mobile workers, or for secure branch office endpoint connections."
WatchGuard XTM 2 Series - Security Without Compromise
The WatchGuard XTM 2 Series packs a punch in a small form-factor, making it ideal for small businesses and remote branch offices that want the latest in security and multi-threat protection. Leveraging WatchGuard's "defense-in-depth" architecture, the XTM 2 Series performs deep packet inspection, stateful packet inspection, and then adds a layer of application proxy protection to thwart attacks that would otherwise elude typical firewalls.
With the first to have specific VoIP proxies built into security appliances, WatchGuard leads the industry for protecting unified communications and VoIP networks. Recognizing the growing trend of VoIP in small businesses, WatchGuard brings this ability into the XTM 2 Series, making VoIP security easy so that administrators do not need to expose network systems by "wiring around the firewall."
Powered by the latest operating system, Fireware XTM, the WatchGuard XTM 2 Series includes scriptable CLI for easy customization and automation. As well, with its advanced networking features, such as transparent bridge mode and multicast over VPN, businesses can manage security policies without having to change the existing network infrastructure.
In addition to the strong security, administrators will appreciate the productivity gains realized by the XTM 2 Series. For example, Skype blocking capabilities not only help ensure better security, but also prevent unauthorized file sharing, unnecessary instant messaging or online chat. Furthermore, by using the WebBlocker service, businesses can keep employees focused by eliminating traffic to malicious websites or other nonproductive sites.
For today's mobile and remote workers, the XTM 2 Series offers integrated high performance SSL VPN connectivity without the high price tag. WAN and VPN failover increase performance, redundancy and reliability, and multiple VPN choices allow for greater flexibility and use scenarios, such as for remote offices or temporary locations.
Businesses will value the free interactive, real-time monitoring and reporting tools, which give an unprecedented view into network security activity. Intuitive management controls also allow for remote management, making the XTM 2 Series an excellent solution for managed security service providers.
Helming concludes, "The launch of the XTM 2 Series completes the product line transition from the Firebox X Edge e-Series to a more customer and channel friendly taxonomy. Furthermore, the XTM 2 Series embodies WatchGuard's vision of providing security appliances that can add new security capabilities as threats evolve."
