Activate the IPSec Mobile VPN Client

The WatchGuard IPSec Mobile VPN Client initially uses a 30-day trial license. To use the client after the initial 30 day trial period, you must purchase a WatchGuard IPSec Mobile VPN Client license, and use the license to activate the client software.

You can optionally purchase licenses for the WatchGuard IPSec Mobile VPN client in 50 seat or 10 seat bundles. With this volume license option, your fulfillment email includes a bundle ID and a bundle key. You manage and activate bundle licenses from the Mobile VPN License Server (MVLS) software. Before You Begin

To activate your IPSec Mobile VPN Client, you must have:

  • The WatchGuard IPSec Mobile VPN Client v11.3.2 or higher installed
  • An active connection to the Internet
  • The license number and serial number you received when you purchased the WatchGuard IPSec Mobile VPN Client license

Activate the Client

To activate the client:

  1. From your Windows desktop, select Start > All Programs > WatchGuard Mobile VPN > Mobile VPN Monitor.
  2. Click Activation.
    The License Data dialog box opens. The Activation status shows that the client is not activated.

  1. To view the software license agreement, click Terms of the License.
  2. To start the Software Activation Wizard, click Activation.
    The Activation Mode dialog box opens.

  1. Select Online Activation.
  2. Click Next.
    The License Data dialog box opens.

  1. Type the License Key and Serial Number you received when you purchased the VPN client license.
  2. Click Next.
    The Internet Connection dialog box opens.

  1. Make sure your computer can connect to the Internet.
  • If your computer already has an Internet connection, you can skip this step.
  • To use an existing VPN client profile to connect to the Internet, select the Establish an internet connection using a profile entry check box. From the Profile drop-down list, select the profile to use.
  • To connect to the Internet through a proxy server, click Proxy Settings. Select the settings for your proxy server.
  1. Click Next.
    The wizard processes your online activation and tells you whether it was successful.
  2. Click Finish to exit the wizard.
    The serial number you activated shows on the License Data dialog box, and the Activation status is OK.

  1. Click Close.

To reopen the License Data dialog box after activation, select Help > License Data and Activation.

Deactivate a WatchGuard IPSec Mobile VPN Client License

If you need to move the WatchGuard IPSec Mobile VPN client to another computer, then you must first deactivate the license from the original computer.

To deactivate the license, from the WatchGuard IPSec Mobile VPN client:

  1. Select Help > Deactivate Client.
    The Deactivation Wizard opens.

    The Data Entry page opens.

  5. In the Name text box, type your name.
  6. In the E-Mail text box, type your email address where you want to receive the activation link.
  7. In the E-Mail (Confirm) text box, type your email address again.
  8. Click Next.
    The license deactivates from the original computer and a confirmation email is sent to your email address.

Move a WatchGuard IPSec Mobile VPN Client License

To move a WatchGuard IPSec Mobile VPN Client license to a different computer:

  1. Use the steps in the Deactivate a WatchGuard IPSec Mobile VPN Client License section to deactivate the license from the original computer.
  2. Uninstall the WatchGuard IPSec Mobile VPN client from the original computer.
  3. Install the WatchGuard IPSec Mobile VPN client on the new computer.
  4. Use the steps in the Activate the Client section to add the license to the IPSec Mobile VPN Client on the new computer.

If the original computer has a failure that makes it impossible to deactivate the client license, you can use the same license one additional time to activate the client on a different computer. A third activation requires a call to WatchGuard. We recommend that you remove the license from the original computer, if you can do so.
