Aliasing

Aliasing enables you to configure various collections of computers into groups, and create groups of users with varying levels of permissions.

Aliasing provides a simple way to remember IP addresses, NT Domain Groups and Users, network IP addresses, and supergroups containing some combination of groups, users, domains, and IP addresses. Aliases can then be used for building access rules for services, for authentication groups, and for groups when configuring Web Blocker.

Firebox Domain users and groups and NT Domain users and groups are not the same as Host Aliases. You can use the Aliases tab, however, to create host aliases that contain Firebox Domain users and NT Domain users.

Aliasing is the act of delineating your organization according to your security policy. It includes the following:

"Friendly" host names
A descriptive or easily remembered name as an alias for a given server or workstation's IP address.

"Friendly" network names
A descriptive or easily remembered name as an alias for a network's IP address.

Work Groups
These are groups of workstations and/or servers, usually organized by function or department.

Privilege Groups

In WebBlocker, you can create groups based on what Web sites you'll allow them to access and when.

Authentication Groups
These are groups organized by whether they remotely access your network via RADIUS, CRYPTOCard, or WatchGuard authentication.
