DNSWatch in WatchGuard Cloud consists of these components:
DNSWatch
The cloud-based service that monitors DNS requests to prevent connections to known malicious or filtered domains.
DNS Resolvers
DNSWatch DNS resolvers resolve DNS queries from protected networks. WatchGuard hosts DNSWatch DNS servers in multiple regions.
Blackhole Server
When DNSWatch receives a DNS request for a blocked domain, it resolves the domain to the IP address of the Blackhole Server. When the DNS request connects to the Blackhole Server, DNSWatch tries to gather more information about the source of the blocked DNS request and the type of threat. For a blocked DNS request that occurs for HTTP or HTTPS connections, the DNSWatch block page appears in the browser. Global Domain Feed
WatchGuard uses publicly available information sources to identify and prevent access to malicious domains or domains with suspicious certificates. These sources are called domain feeds and combine to create the Global Domain Feed in DNSWatch in WatchGuard Cloud. The Global Domain Feed automatically provides protection from malicious domains to your protected networks.
Content Filters
Content filters enable you to block domains in specific categories, such as gambling, alcohol, or adult content. When a user tries to connect to a filtered website, DNSWatch replaces the requested content with a block page. Block Pages
Block pages appear instead of the requested content when DNSWatch determines that a requested domain is malicious or filtered. For more information, go to About the Block Pages for DNSWatch in WatchGuard Cloud.
