Use RapidDeploy QuickStart

RapidDeploy QuickStart enables a Firebox to automatically download and use a configuration file that was created by WatchGuard with recommended firewall and security settings.

The RapidDeploy QuickStart file configures the external interface, interface 0, to use DHCP to get an IP address.

Enable RapidDeploy Quickstart

RapidDeploy QuickStart is supported for only some Firebox models. If your Firebox supports RapidDeploy QuickStart, there are two methods you can use to enable it:

  • Select RapidDeploy QuickStart when you activate your device
  • On the Product Details page on the WatchGuard website, click Set up RapidDeploy, then select Use RapidDeploy QuickStart

When you enable RapidDeploy QuickStart, you must set the passphrases for your device. Your device uses these passphrases after it downloads the RapidDeploy configuration file.

Connect Your Device

After you enable RapidDeploy QuickStart, you can connect your Firebox.

  1. Use the green Ethernet cable included with the device to connect interface 0 to your Internet connection.
  2. Power on the device.
  3. Wait a few minutes for the device to download the configuration file.
The device automatically downloads the configuration file and feature key from WatchGuard.
  4. Connect your computer or local network to interface 1, the trusted interface.

For a more detailed description of how to connect your device, see Connect the Firebox.

When your device is powered on for the first time, it automatically downloads the configuration file from RapidDeploy. If you want the device to download this file again, you can reset the device to the factory-default settings. For more information, see Reset a Firebox.

Verify Success

After the Firebox retrieves the configuration file from RapidDeploy, the Product Details page shows the date and time the file was requested, the IP address of the device, and the version of Fireware OS installed on the device.

After the RapidDeploy process is complete, verify that users on the Firebox trusted network can connect to the Internet. If users cannot connect to the Internet after the device retrieves the configuration file from RapidDeploy, verify that:

  • The trusted network is connected to interface 1
  • DHCP is enabled on the computers connected to the trusted network
  • Devices on the trusted network receive an IP address in the 10.0.1.0/24 subnet

For information about how to troubleshoot RapidDeploy, see Troubleshoot RapidDeploy.

RapidDeploy QuickStart Configuration Settings

RapidDeploy QuickStart automatically configures the default Device Management user account credentials, network settings, and firewall settings for your Firebox. If your device has licensed services, it also configures settings for Gateway AntiVirus, WebBlocker, and Reputation Enabled Defense.

All other configuration settings are set to the same default settings that are specified when you use the Web Setup Wizard or WSM Quick Setup Wizard to create a basic configuration file.

Customize Your Configuration

After you connect your Firebox, you can connect to the device to customize the configuration file. For example, we recommend that you set the correct time zone for the device in the System Settings.

To edit the configuration file, from Fireware Web UI:

  1. Connect your computer to the local network you connected to interface 1, or connect it directly to interface 1.
  2. Make sure your computer has an IP address on the 10.0.1.0/24 network.
  3. Open your web browser and go to https://10.0.1.1:8080.
A security certificate warning appears because the certificate the Firebox uses is signed by the WatchGuard Certificate Authority, which is not in the list of trusted authorities on your browser. You can safely ignore this warning.
  4. Ignore the security certificate warning. In Firefox, you must add a security exception to proceed.
The Fireware Web UI Login Page appears.
  5. Log in with the admin user account and the admin passphrase you set when you activated the device.

For more information, see Connect to Fireware Web UI.

To edit the configuration file from Policy Manager:

  1. Connect your computer to the local network you connected to interface 1, or connect it directly to interface 1.
  2. Make sure your computer has an IP address on the 10.0.1.0/24 network.
  3. Start WatchGuard System Manager.
  4. Connect to the device at 10.0.1.1, with the status user account and the status passphrase you set when you activated the device.
For more information, see Connect to a Device.
  5. To start Policy Manager, click the Policy Manager icon. Or, select Tools > Policy Manager.
