The WatchGuard Mobile VPN app can import a WatchGuard .wgm VPN profile so that the VPN client on Android and iOS devices can make VPN connections to a Firebox.

WatchGuard Mobile VPN App for Android

The WatchGuard Mobile VPN app for Android is a VPN client app. It can import a Mobile VPN with IPSec profile and then use the settings in that profile to connect to your network. The profile used by the WatchGuard Mobile VPN app is a .wgm file, that you generate from the Mobile VPN with IPSec configuration in Policy Manager or from Fireware Web UI. You can use the Android VPN client to make an IPSec VPN connection to a Firebox that runs Fireware v11.7 or higher.

The WatchGuard Mobile VPN app for Android is supported on Android 4.0.x, 4.1.x, and Android 5.0.1.

Before you use the WatchGuard Mobile VPN app for Android, you must configure Mobile VPN with IPSec on the Firebox with the required settings and you must generate the end-user profile.

For information, see Use Mobile VPN with IPSec with an Android Device.

WatchGuard Mobile VPN App for iOS

The WatchGuard Mobile VPN app for iOS is a VPN setup app that can import a .wgm profile to the native iOS VPN client. You then use the native iOS VPN client to make the IPSec VPN connection. Unlike the WatchGuard Mobile VPN app for Android, the WatchGuard Mobile VPN app for iOS is not a VPN client. It is a helper app that imports a .wgm profile to the native VPN client on the iOS device. You can use the native iOS VPN client to make an IPSec VPN connection to a Firebox that runs Fireware v11.5.1 or higher.

The WatchGuard Mobile VPN app for iOS is supported for iOS 5.x and 6.x. The WatchGuard Mobile VPN app for iOS is a free app available in the Apple app store.

Before you use the WatchGuard Mobile VPN app for iOS, you must configure Mobile VPN with IPSec on the Firebox with the required settings and you must generate the end-user profile.

For information, see Use the Mac OS X or iOS Native IPSec VPN Client.

Mobile VPN App End-User Profile

After you configure Mobile VPN with IPSec, you can generate an end-user profile. The WatchGuard Mobile VPN app end-user profile is generated as a .wgm file. You can generate a .wgm file for Mobile VPN with IPSec and Mobile VPN with L2TP.

  • The .wgm file for Mobile VPN with IPSec is supported in the WatchGuard Mobile VPN app for Android and iOS.
  • The .wgm file for Mobile VPN with L2TP is supported only in the WatchGuard Mobile VPN app for iOS.

The .wgm end-user profile is encrypted.

  • For Mobile VPN with IPSec, the .wgm file is encrypted with the passphrase specified in the Mobile VPN with IPSec configuration.
  • For Mobile VPN with L2TP, the .wgm file is encrypted with the encryption passphrase you specify when you generate the profile.

The mobile user must know the passphrase in order to open the .wgm file in the WatchGuard Mobile VPN app. Make sure you use a secure method to communicate the passphrase to the mobile users.
