Summary of Responsibilities

The Manufacturing engineering manager is responsible for the management of the manufacturing engineering department. The function is responsible for the coordination between the design engineering group, product marketing group and the Supply-chain/operations group for the successful introduction of new products and the sustaining engineering and manufacturing of the existing products for the company.

Scope of Responsibility

  • Ensure proper product management by the manufacturing engineering department in the scheduling and production of all hardware appliances
  • Work closely with ODM/contract manufacturers in the cost reduction process
  • Head the ODM / Contract manufacturing qualification team
  • Design, develop and ensure quality standards are implemented and effective at all CM/ODM locations
  • Work closely with product marketing to ensure timely and successful launches of new products
  • Head the design for manufacturing review with the design engineering group
  • Investigate and propose innovation in manufacturing methods to increase reliability and maintain costs
  • Budget management for the manufacturing engineering department
  • Manage Mfg. Eng. team’s focus and priorities regarding:
    • Process documentation and improvement across multiple functional areas
    • Product documentation
    • Vendor management; process driven improvements and quality mgmt
    • Development and sustaining support for manufacturing test/load systems
    • Component second sourcing for cost improvement and EOL
    • Appliance environmental compliance (e.g. WEEE, RoHS, "Green Procurement")
    • NPI and functional project management
    • Quality metrics and improvement via statistical analysis of vendor data and RMA data points, and CAR/CAPA program

Education & Competencies

  • BS/BA in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering with extensive knowledge of lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles or plus ten years applicable experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Solid record of accomplishments/achievements throughout education and employment career.
  • Strong communication/leadership skills and ability to work within a collaborative team atmosphere.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing tools: 5S, Kanban, Poka-Yoke, Visual Management, etc. Six Sigma exposure desired, certification preferred.
  • Superior technical skills in hardware and manufacturing engineering.
  • Knowledge of software development process and in software functionality.
  • Product management skills.
  • Strong communications skills both oral and written.
  • Effective time management skills.

Unique Physical Requirements

Position primarily works in office environment. Sitting for long period of time. Use of computer monitor and keyboard is required.
