No matter how hard you work on a presentation, what
sticks with people are the jokes. You can double-check your facts,
pack in ground-breaking concepts, and polish your delivery to an elegant sheen;
but afterwards, your audience will comment mostly on the funny parts.
I'm proud of the content packed into LiveSecurity's podcast,
Radio Free Security. We've had great guests; lots of practical tips;
superb analysis of the month's security trends. But guess what everybody emails
us about? Yep. Our comedy bits, "IT Fantasy Help Desk," and our fake
commercial for a non-existent product, "SYN Flood: the cologne for IT
professionals."
Sure, people email us about the "serious" content, too. But everybody mentions
the jokes.
Well, we are black-belt people pleasers here at WatchGuard. So now, unecumbered
by any surrounding material, you can download some of our most popular
bits for your own amusement and amazement. If you happen to teach or train
with IT professionals as your audience, we've found that these little 30-second
bumpers work great if played as a "palate cleanser" between chapters
of your presentation. Or, you might simply think they're fun to play for colleagues.
(Warning: normal people won't find them funny. Good thing there are so few
normal people in IT!)
In "IT Fantasy Help Desk," you'll hear phone calls
that technical support staff might wish to hear, but never will. And the "SYN
flood" ad conveys some of the concepts behind a distributed denial of service
attack, expressed in the style of a Calvin Klein Obsession commercial.
Everywhere the human animal goes, it brings both love pats and dope slaps.
Security can be serious business, but as long as humans are involved, there
will be a humorous element...represented partially in the MP3s below.
