Ten MS Security Bulletins for Tomorrow's June Patch Day

7 June, 2010 -- Tomorrow, expect a patch packed Microsoft Black Tuesday. According to their Advance Notification, Microsoft plans to release ten security bulletins, fixing flaws in Windows, Office, and Internet Explorer (IE). They rated three of the flaws as Critical, and the rest as Important.

In Microsoft-land, Critical updates typically fix flaws that allow remote attackers to gain control of your computer, with little to no user interaction; important updates still correct issues that sometimes allow code execution, but they also tend to require more user interaction for attacks to succeed. In any case, you will want to patch all of Microsoft's flaws as soon as possible, putting a slight priority on the Critical ones. That said, I recommend you test tomorrow's patches on non-production test machines before deploying them throughout your network.

We'll know more about Microsoft bulletins tomorrow, probably around 11am PST, and will publish alerts about them via LiveSecurity and LiveSecurity Informer.

On an aside, Adobe also uses the second Tuesday of every month as thier patch day. You might want to keep an eye out for some Adobe alerts tomorrow as well. -- Corey Nachreiner, CISSP
