December's Microsoft Patch Day looks just like last month's

4 December 09 -- Deja Vu. This month, Microsoft plans to release a half dozen security bulletins, three of which are rated Critical - just like last month.

According to their Advanced Notification for December, next Tuesday's bulletins will include five Windows updates, and one Office update. One of the five Windows bulletins affects Internet Explorer (IE), and another affects Office to a certain degree.

Since this month's Black Tuesday pretty much mimics last month's in scope, I suggest you make the same type of preperations you did in November. Inform your IT staff so that they're ready to download, test, and deploy those updates as quickly as possible, and make sure to take care of the Critical Microsoft bulletins first.

We'll know more about these flaws on Tuesday 8 December, and will publish alerts about them via LiveSecurity and LiveSecurity Informer. -- Corey Nachreiner, CISSP
